Spring "Break"

One of the {very few} positives of working a {kinda depressing} part-time {dead-end} job is I do have the luxury of flexibility.  Since last week was spring break for Jon, I got to enjoy a little {and by little I mean just a tiny bit} time doing non-school or work activities!  This Spring “Break” was much needed for Jon to catch up on a few things he was just a tad behind in while trying to get all his MBA stuff in.  And also needed for US to just be US for a day!

Some of the highlights from Spring Break:

* See previous post- Yup, I cut Jon’s lovely locks!!

*  We went to Grand Rapids for a day!  GR is one of my favorite cities in Michigan {maybe in all the land!}.  There is just a richness to the city that I love.  There are so many great little boutiques and original restaurants, the beach is thirty minutes away, fun museums, and lots of culture.  Some of these things are hidden and take time to discover, but I think there is definitely something in the city for everyone.
It was hard to believe that the day was already over, as it seemed to go by in a flash.  We started our day with a little shopping {I was on a mission for a new wallet and new shoes for Jon}.  After that we headed to the East Hills Neighborhood for an excellent lunch at Marie Catrib's.  Jon got the Chicken Rueben {back in my meat eating days this was one of my favorites}  and I got the Sweet potato and Quinoa burger- delish!  After that we went to Nantucket Bakery to satisfy my sweet tooth with the best molasses cookie. ever.  So very yummy!  By the time we made it to this point the day was nearly half over! After that we made a quick stop at the coffee/candy shop I worked at during undergrad for some treats to take home.  The yogurt covered almonds were my weakness when I worked there so we left a pound of those, a few dark chocolate almonds, a few strawberry yogurt covered pretzels, and some cherry sours.  We finally made our way to the public museum for the Voyage to Mars exhibit.  After our trip to Mars we arrived at the Grove for dinner with my old roomie, Katie.  Two and a half hours later we were on our way back to Lansing, tired and full.  The day was a success!

spring break in GR... it looks a lot like this one <3

 *  Our next event was an early morning breakfast at Golden Harvest.  This is our favorite place for breakfast.  Before we leave Lansing I need to get the logo sticker for my car.  Jon and I love to point them out when we spot them and even take pictures on our phones and send them to each other when we spy the skull and cutlery.

*  Our next event was receiving the Breville Juicer Plus in the mail!  I'm hoping this shiny new piece of equipment encourages healthier snacking {mostly on my end, because Jon is running out of hiding spaces for the various candies and treats I have collected over the last 6 months}.  It truly is a glorious machine... And the smart shopper that I am found it for half the marked price- so we got a steal of a deal!  The juicer has also been a central part of my cleans that began monday {I'll update more about that soon}!

*  On Saturday, we did our last excursion to Detroit.  We started our morning in the Temple and then made our way to the Detroit Institute of Art.  Someone passed along the information that if you "like" the DIA on facebook in the month of March, you get 4 free guest passes to the museum!  So we spent 3+ hours walking around the first and second floor of the DIA.  I'm so grateful Jon loves to do this kind of stuff, because it is something I really enjoy as well.
I'm lame and didn't take any pictures- but it was a great day! And a great Spring Break.  Now back to the grind, and just another month and a half and Jon will be off for the summer!!
